Am I an Eco Art Warrior Now?

Soooo, after our undercover ops and of course religiously being told by Ciarán that I wouldn’t find any evidence of illegal fuel dumping- SURPRISE SURPRISE- I didn’t!!! No sooner was this ‘fuel’ dumped, it was immediately cleared up and taken away by the local authorities. Now, it was dumped in plain sight and even though it was on border back roads, it was always at or near, as I said before, a well-known landmark or site. It’s as if, by being seen and out in the open, it would immediately get cleared up. So really, the authorities were doing their job for them- saving them the effort…

I knew in my head that I wanted to physically ‘see’ this substance and maybe use it as part of some exploratory print making process so I had to think of Plan B. By putting our heads together, Ciarán knew that the green diesel and its by-products had prolifically been dumped into one of our local rivers, so that’s when we decided we had to get some of this water!!!!

After another secret, undercover operation in his daddy’s Hiace van, we parked at the side of a very, very busy road as the river was flowing underneath it. Ciarán jumped the fence, probably DIDN’T trespass into someone’s field, bypassed their horses and VERY quickly filled a plastic milk carton with water. Mission accomplished and let’s just say…we ran back to that van and started her up very quickly!!!!

LIGHT BULB MOMENT: I knew now that I wanted to focus on the environmental impacts of the culture and how the/my/our local rivers were impacted by the illegal fuel and its by products, that were being dumped into them!!!! Ciarán was going to use that water alongside his analogue photography printing process so I needed to get my own.

I actually did drive down again and parked up with the intention of getting my own sample but waaaaayyyyy too scary in my own car and on my own so I drove to the source of the river. Further away but a lot more inconspicuous and hidden!!!!

And as you can see, I got me own milk carton…lol…

It all started clicking together now, and I knew I needed ‘something’ to see what was in this water. I NEEDED A MICROSCOPE!!!!
